VIEW FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

1. What is VIEW?

VIEW stands for Virginia Initiative for Employment not Welfare.

2. How can I become part of the VIEW program?

In order to participate in VIEW, you must first receive TANF. TANF stands for Temporary Assistance to Needy Families. If you are receiving TANF and you have a child 12 months or older, you are required to participate in VIEW.

3. How can VIEW help me?

The goal of the VIEW program is to help individuals find employment. You can also be eligible to receive assistance with daycare and transportation.

4. How long do I have to participate in VIEW?

As long as you are receiving TANF, you must participate in VIEW. There is a 5-year life-time limit to receiving TANF benefits. In Virginia, you can only receive TANF two years at a time.

5. What if I don’t participate in VIEW?

If you do not participate in VIEW and do not have a good reason, your TANF benefits could be stopped, or sanctioned.

6. What are the requirements for the VIEW program?

Participants must work at least 30 hours/week in order to be in compliance. If you are not working, you must complete a 30-day job search and attend weekly job readiness classes. After the initial 30 days, if you are still unemployed, you would be referred to a volunteer work placement, called CWEP (Community Work Experience Placement).
